Located in Idaho’s southwestern corner, Owyhee County is bordered by Nevada on the south, Oregon on the west, Canyon, Ada and Elmore counties on the north and Twin Falls County on the east. It is the second largest county in Idaho.
It is named for the river, mountains and mining area explored by Hawaiian fur trappers in 1819-1820. (Hawaii and Owyhee are different spellings of the same word.)
